Publisher review:FDC - The Flight Dynamics and Control (FDC) toolbox for Matlab/Simulink The Flight Dynamics and Control (FDC) toolbox is a graphical software environment for the design and analysis of aircraft dynamics and control systems, based upon Matlab and Simulink. It simplifies the Flight Control System design process by integrating linear and non-linear analysis within one software environment. The toolbox has been set up around a non-linear simulation model of the DeHavilland Beaver aircraft, which can be adapted for other types of airplanes thanks to its modular structure. The complete model has been implemented as a graphical block-diagram in Simulink. The toolbox also includes some analytical Matlab routines for extracting steady-state flight conditions and determining linearized models for user-specified operating points. Simulink models of atmospheric disturbances and radio-navigation systems, extensive models of a `classical' autopilot, and several help-utilities which simplify the handling of the systems and tools are als provided.The current version of the toolbox is FDC 1.3.3 (version 1.4 is under development, see below). It fixes some small bugs from the previous FDC 1.3 release and the first two Service Releases, and it is covered by different licensing terms. FDC 1.3.3 requires Matlab 5.1 and Simulink 2.1 (Matlab R9) or newer. It has been successfully tested with Matlab R11 and R12, although with those versions it will be necessary to update the Simulink systems with the 'slupdate' command in order to suppress some Simulink warning messages. The Matlab Central distribution is called fdc13.zip. This archive contains three files: report.pdf, README13-3.TXT, and another archive: fdc13-3.zip. The PDF-file contains a user-manual, which was originally written as documentation for the Matlab 4 version of the toolbox (FDC 1.2), but which is still an invaluable reference for the current FDC release as well. The README-file contains detailed instructions to install the FDC toolbox and to get started with this software. Finally, the fdc13-3.zip file contains the toolbox itself.
